SONIA'S VILLAGE TALKS...

COACHING . INCLUSION . FAMILY EMPOWERMENT

Frequently Asked Questions - Organizations

What is your approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion coaching?
Sonia’s Village Talks (SVT) serves as the "voice" for organizations who need assistance with family parenting and diversity, equity and inclusion. Her goal is to coach and train employees and supervisors on how to effectively understand and communicate with a diverse population, including a growing segment, individuals with “different abilities”. The composition of the workforce should mirror the diversity of the community it serves. Shockingly, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that only 21% of individuals with disabilities are currently employed. When professionals within a community reflect its diversity, they are better positioned to understand and cater to the needs of their clients. Unfortunately, there is significant underrepresentation of individuals with different abilities in the workforce. In today's context, it is more crucial than ever for supervisors and staff to undergo training that enables them to coexist harmoniously with this community.
How can SVT’s services help the employees of my organization?
“Work DOESN'T work” when your employees are preoccupied with parenting issues. According to “Inc. Magazine”, workforce distractions are costing companies millions of dollars. 52% of high-growth companies believe minimizing distractions is a top priority (Source: Zipdo.co/statistics/workforce distractions). Through a series of workshops Sonia’s Village Talks (SVT) will provide “Lunch and Learn” workshops to educate, encourage and empower your employees through each stage of parenting. The workshops will provide your employees with research based strategies in positive parenting and contribute to a more productive workforce. How can SVT’s services help the supervisors within my organization?
Coaching/Training plays a crucial role in helping supervisors within an organization better manage this growing segment, i.e., individuals with hidden disabilities. According to Forbes, 96% of people with a disability DO NOT disclose this information on a job application. SVT will work with your supervisors to help them recognize potential "hidden disabilities" and coach/train them on how to better communicate with this group. SVT will help supervisors identify reasonable accommodations and flexible work arrangements to increase performance, productivity and employee retention.

What are the benefits to hiring “individuals who learn differently”?
Coaching supervisors on working with individuals with different disabilities is crucial to fostering an inclusive, legally compliant, and supportive work environment where all employees can thrive. This benefits both the individuals with disabilities and the organization as a whole. Here are several important reasons:
- Promotes Inclusivity and Diversity- Legal Compliance- Effective Communication (better understanding of the different abilities and needs contributes to workforce productivity)- Educate Supervisors on Accommodation Awareness- Overcome Stereotypes and Bias- Help Supervisors Address and Avoid Conflict Resolution- Builds an Inclusive Culture- Collaborate with Leaders in Developing Leadership Skills in the Context of Managing Diverse Teams- Retention and Employee Satisfaction
Coaches can help supervisors understand the correlation between inclusive practices and employee satisfaction, which ultimately contributes to higher retention rates. When employees feel valued and supported, they are more likely to be engaged and committed to their work.
